Saturday 24th May - walk *** – Orwell Country Park including picnic by the river – Rain early remaining cloudy.

The forecast early morning rain arrived here in Felixstowe, it was certainly needed after a long dry spell, Mag was chuffed as all her water butts are now full! I headed out at 8.20 to take some rainy weather pics which is a bit of a waste of time at the weekend but its was so long since rain it made a change to get some wet pics! I passed the golf course where a tournament was getting under way, took some pics at the Ferry, then headed to the view point but there was only one ship in so no pics there! Some wind was forecast sws to w so there was a chance of a trip to Levington to make the most of the 10 o clock high water but the wind was too light and it was so gloomy I could not find the enthusuim so did my exercises in the back garden. There was talk of a few heading to The Manor for 1.30 but it was pretty offshore and marginal so gave that a miss too as several breezy days coming so I packed a picnic and we drove over to Orwell Country Park for a walk in the woods down to the Orwell, the bluebells were a distant memory but the ferns and bracken looked lovely:) The tide was now low on the river and smelled of seaweed with several birds feeding including 4 herons! We sat opposite Stoke Yacht club for lunch, fleeces were needed as we had the westerly breeze in our faces! The we continued past the small holding, under the noisy Orwell Bridgeand back up the other side where we spotted a complete hedgerow covered in web with small caterpillars! Then we drove to check out the electric mountains bikes at Halfords but they had a poor selection but I did get a nice pair of sandals from Sports Direct, another crap shop really! Then home for a cuppa and cake as the sun made a brief appearance and more rain forecast for tonight!
